M.Tech. in Cyber Security is a two-year degree program at Indian Institute of Information Technology Sri City, Chittoor offered by the faculty of Computer Science and Engineering.

The recent advancement of information sharing over the Internet increases cyber threats to the organizations and individuals that deal with classified information. With the rapid growth in technology, information security is becoming a challenge to organizations. It requires security related sophisticated knowledge and tools to keep the systems secure from external threats. Many surveys reveal that financial organizations, like banks and insurance companies, spend on an average 10% of their annual IT budget on cyber security.  Around the world as well as in India there is a high demand for cyber security professionals who are well educated about the various aspects of cyber security.

Being an Institute of National Importance in Information Technology, IIIT Sri City is already running the B.Tech. program with Cyber Security specialization. Thus, the M.Tech. in Cyber Security  program will boost the IIITS ecosystem further and will produce highly skilled manpower to the industry. The proposed program is intended to offer students a unique blend of skills which will enable them to pursue a career in academia, research or industry. The program is designed to provide students with the necessary foundations for tackling key cybersecurity challenges, and allows students to study electives which will further enhance their skills in their interested areas. The overarching objective of this program is to train students to become cyber security professionals in such a way that they can become world leaders in cyber security and shape India's future in a better way.  The curriculum at IIIT Sri City emphasizes Outcome Based Education (OBE) and follows a student-centric teaching and learning methodology designed to help students achieve well-defined objectives after completing the courses.

Teaching Methodology at IIIT Sri City

At IIIT Sri City, we broadly follow two teaching methodology simultaneously:

Classroom discussions conducted and facilitated by highly talented faculty members followed by Lab and tutorial sessions. Tutorial sessions are especially very helpful to those students who need extra help to excel in courses.

Research based projects to offer hands-on experience. Generally faculty members throw challenging technology related problems to students to work and come up with implementable solutions over the period of 2-4 semesters

The OBE Curriculum for M.Tech. (Cyber Security)

At IIIT Sri City, we follow an Outcome Based Education (OBE) where the course delivery and assessment are carefully planned to achieve stated objectives and outcomes.

Program Outcomes

Program outcomes are specific focused statements that describe what students are expected to be able to do at the end of their graduation. These outcomes are expected to align closely with various attributes, a graduate is expected to demonstrate at the end of the program.

The following Program Outcomes are derived for the M.Tech. in Cyber Security Program offered by IIIT Sri City:

SNo PO ID Program Outcomes (POs)
1 PO1 Ability to recognise problems/opportunities and to use emerging technological choices in cyber security for developing state-of-the-art solutions.
2 PO2 Ability to understand the additional cyber security specific requirements and build efficient solutions, with those requirements in context.
3 PO3 Ability to be aware of technical solutions that are following legal, and ethical aspects aligning with social responsibilities both at designing and developmental phases.
4 PO4 Ability to investigate and interpret forensically security incidents to ensure restoration of services and build effective defense mechanisms.
5 PO5 Ability to apply advanced/intelligent tools and techniques to analyse, identify and manage security threats and vulnerabilities.
6 PO6 Ability to work in diverse teams and contribute towards attainment of overall outcome/impact of the tasks/projects.
7 PO7 Ability to communicate clearly and precisely with individuals and groups for achieving timely and quality outcomes.

There are 7 POs and out of which the first 5 POs are specific to building and enhancing the technical expertise of the students during the course of the cyber security program and the last 2 POs that are essential to follow good practices adhering social and cultural values for the rest of their lives.
